The problem of addictions is becoming more and more widely discusses publicly. The discussions regarding the reasons and background of the occurrence of addictions leads to a necessity of searching for the methods of help and treatment of the addicts. Therefore, the need of employing specialists ready to provide the help and assistance to those addicted is highly required these days.

  • Socio-psychological theories of addictions

  • Biomedical problems of addictions

  • The methodology of individual, family and group therapy

  • Disorders and mental illness – classification, diagnosis and therapies

  • Medical psychology

  • Social Psychology

  • Addictions diagnosing and therapy programming

  • Prophylactics programmes – the methodology of implementation, effectiveness

  • The methods of treatment and the effectiveness of addiction therapy prophylactics

  • Legal aspects in addiction therapy prophylactics

  • Social prophylactics and administrative tasks in the problem of addictions

 

 

Main professional skills:

 

  • The recognition of the psychological, health educational and family condition of the addict

  • The recognition of the reasons of the difficulties following undertaking relevant prophylactic activities

  • The participation in the teams diagnosing the problems as a basis to further and relevant therapeutic activities

  • Therapy planning of the addict or his/her member of the family

  • Pedagogical assistance through counselling, intervention and therapy conduct

  • The organization of prophylactics activities in schools, psycho-pedagogical clinics and other institutions where the problem of addictions may occur

  • The cooperation with psychological-pedagogical institutions or clinics, social care, courts, police, probationary officers, and parents of the addict

  • Assistance in providing varied forms of specialistic help, e.g. Medical, psychological, educational, etc. I

  • The organization of support groups

  • Support group conduct

  • Family counselling conduct, parent support

 

 

The example areas of employment:

The graduate is professionally prepared to undertake a job in which he/she is entitled to conduct individual, group or family therapy of the addicts in the institutions and clinics of addictions as well as the specialistic divisions for those addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, drugs and other harmful substances. The knowledge and skills gained throughout the studies, enable the graduate to work as a counsellor counselling the addicts in terms of the causes of addictions and the possibility to undertake relevant therapy.
